Year 3/4 had a very enjoyable trip to Grimes Graves. We discovered how the Stone Age people extracted black flint from the ground. After we had donned our hard hats, we had the chance to climb down a ladder into the main shaft of one of the pits. We could see the flint still in the walls surrounded by the chalk. Off the main shaft we could see into the ‘galleries’ which showed us how small the spaces were that they had to work in. We had more excitement at lunch time when an American helicopter landed in the next field.
