Holt WW2 Evacuee Trip

12th June 2019

On the 12th June 2019, the whole of KS2 pretended to be evacuees for a day as part of our topic about World War II. We arrived at the train station all dressed up in the typical 40's clothing, collected our gas masks and met the strict billeting officer and ARP warden. We then took a memorable journey on a steam train stopping briefly at Weymouth, before coming to Holt where we then took part in several workshops. They took cover in an air-raid; made a rationed lunch, which they then ate; learnt about spotting different aircraft; saw what a typical country house might be like; put on replica gas masks; sang some popular songs of the time and also took part in lowering the flag and saluting. A busy day and one I'm sure they will not forget for a long time!
